What we have in the classic Sailor In The Wild 2 is actually two features spliced together, each a winner in its own right. The first scene is a sequel to Hot Rods from 1987, and the rest of the video is a sequel to Sailor in the Wild (1987), both directed by William Higgins. This time around, Higgins directs only the first scene, in which Ray Stockwell finally confronts his knife-wielding assailant (who turns out to be a friend playing a trick on him, of course). But don't let that discourage you: Josh Eliot's direction of the sailor-on-leave scenes with Vic Summers, is every bit as good. In fact, the best scene in the video - the coupling between Lon Flexxe and Tom Rucker atop a heavy equipment tractor - is Eliot's work. Vic Summers gives a delightful performance as the sailor who misses opportunity after opportunity for hot action because he's too slow on the draw. Of course he gets his just desserts in the final scene. But Summers cannot equal Brian Thompson who made the original Sailor in the Wild a genuine classic. That's not to say that the sequel production is a let down; in fact, it is a polished, well-directed treat.
